Preikestolen BaseCamp is located about 40 minutes by car from Stavanger, at the foot of Preikestolen and close to Refsvatnet and Lysefjorden. Below you will find useful links and information on how to get to us.

How to get here​

Take the car, bus or ferry to Preikestolen BaseCamp. There is a tunnel connection from Stavanger to the Preikestolen area. The trip takes 30-40 minutes.

Please note that the direct buses do not run during the low season. We recommend that you take bus number 100 from Stavanger city center to Jørpeland, and then take a taxi for the last 10 minutes from Jørpeland to Preikestolen BaseCamp.

Timetable Lysefjorden 2023

The parking lot at BaseCamp is owned and operated by the Pulpit Rock Foundation.

It has a capacity of 1,000 cars, and offers 20 new charging stations for those who need to charge before their return trip. Price varies

Parking fee for short-term visitors
NOK 40,- for up to 2 hours.

Parking fee for hikers/day trippers
NOK 250 per day.

As a resident or day guest for more than two hours (teambuilding, courses and conferences, etc.) at Preikestolen BaseCamp, you can park for free.
Contact the staff before leaving the BaseCamp area so you can get a QR code for the parking barrier.

Packing list

The weather changes quickly in Lysefjorden, and you need to be prepared for both sun, wind and rain on the same trip. We have made suggestions for packing lists for summer and winter.

Summer

We recommend the following for a comfortable and safe trip during the summer season:

  • Proper footwear, preferably hiking boots or mountain shoes
  • Bring windproof and waterproof outerwear
  • Extra change of clothes
  • Drink (preferably both hot and cold)
  • Packed lunch and snacks
  • Seat cushion for the lunch break
  • Fully charged mobile phone – you will be taking lots of photos
  • Check the weather forecast before you set off on your trip.

Winter

Preikestolen can be visited all year round. The winter season runs from October to April. During the winter months, the path is often covered with ice and snow.

We recommend the following for a comfortable and safe trip during the winter season:

  • Proper footwear, warm hiking boots or mountain shoes
  • Ice axes (can be rented from us)
  • Poles with spikes (can be rented from us)
  • Wool socks
  • Wool inside the body
  • Hat, scarf and mittens
  • Warm outerwear
  • Extra change of clothes
  • Drink (preferably both hot and cold)
  • Seat cushion for the lunch break
  • Packed lunch and snacks
  • Fully charged mobile phone – you will be taking lots of photos
  • Check the weather forecast before you set off on your trip.

Lost and found

It's easy to forget something when traveling. If you have forgotten something with us, please contact us as soon as possible and no later than within 14 days. Please include the following information in your inquiry:

Name, phone number, email address, dates of visit and a description of what is lost/forgotten.

All valuables are handed over to the police. All other lost property is kept with us for 14 days. Worthless items are thrown away; clothes, shoes and the like are collected and sent to Fretex. Lost property can be sent to your home. We only ship cash on delivery (with a fee).

The service costs 300kr + postage.
