Floating sauna at Preikestolen BaseCamp

In the middle of Refsvatnet, with the mountains around you and the water right outside your door, are our wood-fired sauna boats. A floating sauna at Preikestolen combines warmth, fresh air, and cold baths in surroundings that make it easy to relax.

The complete experience

The sauna is just as suitable after a day of meetings as after a hike in the mountains. Join the team for the actual sauna experience, or combine it with team building, kayaking, food, or accommodation at Preikestolen BaseCamp.

What is a floating sauna?

A floating sauna is a sauna built on a floating structure and moored on the water. Our sauna is located in Refsvatnet and is lit by wood. You get the classic sauna experience, but with mountains, water, and nature close by.

It is precisely the proximity to the water that makes the experience special. When the heat becomes intense, the way is short to a refreshing dip before you head back inside.

Floating, wood-fired sauna boats

A wood-fired sauna at Refsvatnet can be a peaceful start to the day or the end of the day after hours spent outdoors. After a mountain hike, there are few things that can match the feeling of getting into the warmth, letting your body relax and watching the light disappear behind the mountains.

For many, the combination of hot and cold water is the very point. Therefore, a sauna after a mountain hike is especially suitable when you want to extend the day a little.

Badstucultuur

Norwegian bath culture has drawn a lot of inspiration from Finland, but in recent years it has gained an increasingly clear place in outdoor life here at home. A sauna in Norway often involves the simple ritual of heat, respite, and cold water – often repeated several times.

Just as important as the heat itself is the calmness surrounding it. Here, there is little that needs to happen, and that is precisely why there is room to slow down.

A sauna on the water in Rogaland brings the experience even closer to nature, with Refsvatnet, the mountains, and the fresh air as part of the setting.

How can a sauna experience bring the team together after a busy day?

After a day of meetings, activities, or a long hike, a floating sauna at Preikestolen can serve as a natural break in the pace. The phones are put down, the shoulders are lowered, and the conversations take on a different rhythm.

Perhaps this is exactly what a good shared experience is meant to do: give the team a space where no one has to perform, present, or deliver anything.

A sauna, combined with a cold bath and some time without a plan of action, can quickly become the part of the day that people remember best.

What can you do before and after a sauna session at Refsvatnet?

A visit to the sauna can easily be combined with the rest of the day at Preikestolen BaseCamp.

Before the show, you can take a walk on the marked trails or go canoeing, kayaking, or SUPing on Refsvatnet. Afterwards, you can cool off with a swim, have a meal at Fjellstua, or just sit around a bit while the sun goes down.

It is this combination of activity, tranquility, and nature that makes a sauna on the water in Rogaland more than just an hour in the heat.
