PREIKESTOLEN BASECAMP’S COVID-19 RESPONSE

Your health and safety is our top priority

As an accommodation and adventure destination our top priority is to ensure the safety and health of our guests and employees. We have therefore implemented measures, guidelines, and routines to do our utmost to ensure that everyone remains safe and healthy during their time at Preikestolen BaseCamp.

We follow the recommendations and guidelines given by the Norwegian health authorities. Although cleanliness and hygiene have always been a priority in our business, we have increased our focus in this area as a response to Covid-19. In light of the current situation, and in accordance to recommendations from our local health authorities, we now place extra emphasis on the importance of cleaning/disinfecting and good hand hygiene amongst our crew members. We also encourage our guests to wash their hands frequently with soap and warm water.

Dining and Accommodation

It is safe to dine and stay overnight at Preikestolen BaseCamp. We adhere to the following guidelines and recommendations from Norway’s health authorities:

  • We have intensified our focus on hand hygiene and routines for cleaning and disinfection across our properties
  • We frequently disinfect common areas and exposed surfaces
  • We have made Antibac readily available in public areas
  • All employees have received information and guidelines regarding how to handle possible and/or actual cases of infection among guests / colleagues
  • We have stricter measures and guidelines in place for the handling of food and beverages
  • Our breakfast buffet has been replaced by individually packed breakfast kits
  • We have reduced the number of seats in our restaurants and café

Guided Tours and Activities

The following safety measures are followed with regards to guided tours and outdoor activities:

  • All rental equipment is washed between each use
  • Activity leaders and guides are not permitted to shake hands with guests
  • During tours, guides and guests are to maintain a distance of at least 5 meters to other participants
  • Guests with symptoms of respiratory infection can NOT participate in tours - they will receive a voucher for later use

For tours that include transportation:

  • All contact surfaces in our vans are washed between each trip
  • During transportation, both guides and guests must wear face masks
  • Antibac is available in our vans and for the duration of the tour
  • Disposable gloves are available in our vans for use by guests
  • For group tours, the number of passengers being transported has been reduced

Here’s how you as a guest can help us prevent infection:

  • Frequently and thoroughly wash your hands with soap and warm water
  • Keep a distance of at least one meter from other people at all times
  • Avoid coughing or sneezing near other guests
  • When you must cough/sneeze, use disposable tissues and wash your hands as soon as possible
  • If you do not have access to disposable tissues, cough/sneeze into your elbow to prevent droplets from spreading into the air
  • If it’s not possible to properly wash your hands frequently, use a disinfectant that contains alcohol
  • Find alternatives to handshakes and hugging – we recommend blowing a kiss =)
The hike to Preikestolen (Pulpit Rock) and back is 8 km and takes 4-5 hours. The route has an ascent of 500m, while some sections are quite steep. As part of the hike to Pulpit Rock involves rough terrain, we recommend wearing footwear with solid soles and good ankle support.
